She’s a historian, author, and voice feminization coach with a habit of juggling more projects than any reasonable person should. At the centre of it all is We Have Always Existed, her ongoing series uncovering the long, often-erased history of transgender and gender-nonconforming people across the ancient Mediterranean and Near East. She’s covered a wide range of topics, from the Gallae of Rome to the Enarees of Scythia, from Bagoas at Alexander’s side to trans saints like Marinos and Pelagius.

What started as a YouTube series has grown into a body of long-form written research with real academic citations, alongside a growing collection of journals. Sophie’s approach is rigorous but approachable. It’s grounded in primary sources and scholarly research, but without the dryness of a textbook. Her work is designed to be both educational and entertaining.

After going through her own voice feminization journey, Sophie now coaches trans women and trans feminine nonbinary people through the same process, helping them find a voice that actually feels like theirs.

She’s also a novelist. Her debut, The Bottom Line, was published by Vraeyda Literary, and her short fiction has appeared in journals including QT, Last Girls Club, Vagabonds, and The Book Smuggler’s Den.

When she’s not researching, coaching, or writing, Sophie plays drums for the bands Gnargoyle and Gravare (and writes lyrics for the latter). She lives in Toronto with her partner and their four cats Midna, Cinder, Button, and Bean. You’ll often see them at the end of her videos!
